Pearl Jam: Rarities, Live Songs on Doc Soundtrack

Now this is reason to celebrate Pearl Jam's 20th anniversary: The veteran Seattle band just released the official tracklist for their soundtrack to Twenty, a documentary film about the quintet directed by Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous, Singles), and it's loaded with goodies.

Split over two discs, the Twenty compilation features 15 live recordings (on disc one) and 15 B-sides, demos, and rarities (on disc two) that spans the band's career. It's scheduled to drop stateside on September 20, the same day the documentary premieres in movie theatres nationwide.

Before the movie and soundtrack's release, a book featuring a foreword by Crowe as well as interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, and Dave Grohl, among others, will drop on September 12.

Among Twenty's special treats is "Crown of Thorns," a track originally written and performed by Mother Love Bone, the late '80s Seattle band that included future PJ bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard. Recorded at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on October 22, 2000.

update : Krist Novoselic Leading 'Nevermind' Tribute Show

With the twentieth anniversary of Nirvana's Nevermind next month, bassist Krist Novoselic is leading a tribute concert in Seattle on September 20. According to local radio station 107.7 The End, Novoselic will be one of the artists to perform the full record and will be joined by bands like the Fastbacks, the Long Winters, Visqueen, Campire OK, Valis (featuring members of Screaming Trees), and others to be announced soon. Dave Grohl will most likely not be joining — he's scheduled for a Foo Fighters show in Cleveland that night.

The event will take place at the Experience Music Project's Sky Church. Tickets, which are available here, will cost $15 for members and $20 for non-members of the museum. In addition to the show being a celebration of the record, it will also raise money for Susie Tennant, who worked with the band at labels Sub Pop and Geffen and is currently battling cancer.

As SPIN previously reported, Universal will release a deluxe reissue of the record on September 27. The set includes a remastered version, alternate mixes, live recordings, and studio rarities, including the Devonshire Mixes — the album as originally mixed and produced by Butch Vig.

As the album that returned unaffected rock ’n’ roll integrity and passion to the top of the charts, Nevermind would prove a singular inspiration to fans and musicians alike over the last two decades--and will undoubtedly do so for generations to come.

Now on the occasion of Nevermind's 20th anniversary, Universal Music Enterprises presents a full spectrum re-release worthy of such a pivotal classic.
